RESIDENCY

Fish Factory Arts Residency Programme

September 2017

Two residencies being offered for the dates 16/9/17-1/10/17 at the Fish Factory Art Space, Falmouth, Cornwall, UK.

Cost of the residency: £200 for 2 weeks

We are proud to start our new residency programme by offering two fortnight long residencies at the Fish Factory Arts Space this September.

Fish Factory Art Space inhabits a warehouse on the edge of Falmouth Harbour, close to both Falmouth & Penryn in Cornwall, South West England. It houses 21 studios, a small event space and an independant gallery which features a lively and varied program of contemporary, alternative and innovative visual arts, performance and events. Opened in 2011 by local artist Rose Hatcher, the space has provided a forum for both Cornish emerging artists and international collaborators working in challenging and diverse mediums from interactive installations, to murals, to photomontage, printmaking, music and film. In 2017 the offsite project OTSAM (Of Traditional Song and Music) opened in Penryn, adding an acoustic recording studio to the facilities. The diverse offerings have one thing in common: that they flourish in the open and welcoming atmosphere the Fish Factory offers. A definite alternative to the corporate mainstream face of modern art today.

We will provide you with a studio space, based in our main gallery, as well as use of the cosy shared project space (home to comfy chairs and tea/coffee making facilities). We will provide a desk, chairs and wifi for you. In addition you can take advantage of our collection of found materials, our acoustic recording studio and our basic dark room (by arrangement).

The gallery is 30x30’ and has 8’ high boards with a high ceiling and concrete floor. You will be sharing this space with one other resident and will be expected to negotiate how this is divided between you. Working collaboratively is seen as a key part of the residency.

You will have the option of holding a public event, or presentation of your work on the 29th September, but this is not essential as we see this residency as more a way for you to develop a project, network and a chance to experience the Cornish art scene.

Events taking place during your residency in the local area which we will be attending, you are welcome to join us:

Exhibition: A certain kind of light at The Exchange, Penzance

Plymouth Art Weekender
