Adopt a Stitch with Brenda Miller

Saturday 12th May 11am - 2pm

A workshop with artist in residence Brenda Miller to celebrate the heritage of Gansey Knitting Patterns and the women who knitted.

The Adopt a stitch workshop is free - there will be a charge for materials.

Hot drinks and refreshments available in our onsite vegan cafe!

Take a stitch for a walk to Truro!

Sunday 13th May 1.30pm 

Walk and knit with Brenda Miller (or just carry wool and needles if that's too much for you)

Meet Brenda 1.30pm at The Fish Factory for a walk to Penryn station to catch the train to Truro. From Truro station we will walk to Truro Wool for refreshments.

Bring wool and needles to knit on the way

This is part of a programme of short walks during the Brenda's residency based in and around Penryn.

Vinyl Night - Sci-fi Edition

Monday 14th May 7-11pm

This month's theme is 'Science Fiction'. Come down to the Fish Factory for a night of Sci Fi freak outs. Bring up to five sci fi themed songs on vinyl, sign up for a slot on the board, sit back, have a beer and listen to the selections.
The board is sentient, the board has A.I., the board is... B.O.S.S

Virtual Reality Taster Sessions to support End Deportations

Wednesday 16th & Thursday 17th May

20 mins Virtual Reality taster session provided by InterAnima at The Fish Factory for a minimum of £10 donation to the Stansted 15 crowd funder. If you would like more than 20 mins you can book more slots!

Artist in Residence - Melanie Manos

Artist in residence Melanie Manos (USA) is spending her time in Cornwall exploring the local area, walking, biking and leaping into the void.

She will be documenting her explorations in the gallery and will be hosting a presentation at the end of her residency on Saturday 19th May.

Mental Health Awareness Week Event

Saturday 19th May 12-5pm

An afternoon of zine making, collage, poetry and more to raise awareness for Mental Health. This year the theme is stress, but don't stress about that- our main plan is to have some fun, share experiences and eat some cake.

Donations will be split between The Fish Factory ( we still need to finish building ourselves) and a local mental health charity.

Crit Club

Sunday 20th May 3-5pm

We are starting a 'Crit Club' to be held once a month, on Sundays, in our cafe space.

It'll be an opportunity to talk about projects, artworks, exhibitions and works in progress with like-minded people and with the addition of coffee and cake.
We're aiming for a casual but professional approach and want it to be a friendly and constructive environment for feedback, discussion and critique.

You're welcome to come along to join in the discussion, sit and listen or present work to the group. If you do want to present work please let us know beforehand as we only have limited time each month.

Flea Boot

Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May 10-5

Join us once more for the glorious return of the Flea Boot!

Our gallery and cafe space will be home to sellers of vintage treasures and makers of unique products, come along and browse the stalls, drink a cup of tea and eat some delicious food.

Please contact asap if you are interested in selling. Stall fee of £10 for the weekend, £5 deposit required.

Writers Group

Monday 28th May 2-5pm

Learn how to write short reviews for the New Art Examiner. In a friendly, learning environment you can read your 250 word review to the editors and talk with them about your visual experience.

The New Art Examine has published short reviews from the Penzance Writers Group in 2017/18.

Now, with thanks to Fish Factory Arts, the editors are starting a similar writers group here in Penryn.

They will discuss the issues you raise, and the wider contemporary art scene, and hone your skills.
You could be published in the New Art Examiner and you will gain the confidence to pitch ideas to the editors and send out to other art magazines.

This group is free of charge and no booking is required.

Make Stuff Drink Stuff Workshops


Mini Zine Making - Wednesday 30th May 6.30-9pm

Join us for a classic MakeStuff/DrinkStuff session- Mini Zine making!

Learn how to make simple one page publications using a variety of paper folding and basic book binding techniques.

All materials provided but please do bring any text/photos/materials you would like to include in your one off publication.

£10 to include refreshments.

Collage - Saturday 2nd June 3-6pm

MakeStuff/DrinkStuff is a series of workshops that provide a chance to learn a new skill, eat cake and have a drink.

For this workshop you will learn about the history of collage in art, its place in contemporary art, and make your own collage pieces.

Tuition, materials, cake, hot drinks provided. BYO booze if you want!

Since the move to our new home in Penryn we have continued to refurbish our new place and have been working hard to develop our facilities and activities. Our fundraising efforts are still under way and we need your support to stay open and improve our community space!

“A group exhibition of our most recent works. Titled ‘Tristiam and Iseult’, inspired by the Cornish myth, this earth  presents a group of artists who moved to Cornwall, fell in love and never left. The hypnotic and dreamlike environment that is Falmouth, we present to you a snippet of our creative processes and a look at our last 3 years here. From painting to illustration to sculpture, expect a range of different works and see how we inspire each other.”

London noise-rock monsters Part Chimp are set to play the Fish Factory Art Space in May! Returning from a near 8 year hiatus in 2017, London’s loudest band are bringing their primate rock to Cornwall. To make this something extra special Cornwall’s kraut inspired Mildred Maude will coming out of their cosmic cave in support of their vinyl only release of CPL I-III.
